1) Why does the article suggest that ‘on the face of it, BBC Radio is in rude health’?


- This is because it has control of half the national market and they reach more than 34 million people a week.

2) What percentage of under-35s use the BBC iPlayer catch-up radio app?


- only 3% of under 35's use the IPlayer catch-up radio app.


3) What is BBC Sounds?

- BBC Sounds is an app and also a website that will bring things such as radio livestreams, catchup services, music mixes and podcasts all in one place.

4) How do audiences listen to radio content in the digital age?


- In the digital age, people tend to listen to radio content through voice assistants such as Amazon's Alexa.

5) What does Jason Phipps suggest is important for radio and podcast content aimed at younger audiences?


- Jason Phipps suggests that we should reconsider the way that the BBC tells stories if they want to attract a younger audience. He suggests "it has to be a warmer, more story led journey. You need to report the very personal experience of it"

6) Why does the BBC need to stay relevant?


- It is because the BBC is really important and valued by license fee.

- The sound app offers everything audio. It includes things such as music, news, drama, documentaries, true crime and comedy.

8) How does it link to BBC Radio?


- The Sound app links to BBC Radio as the app lets you go throguh any of the live BBCA radio stations.

9) What are the criticisms of the BBC Sounds app?


- The programme information is a little tricky to access and the search isnt sensitibve enough. Furthermore there is not enough content for example "spooky sounds" only offers 11 shows.

10) Two new podcasts were launched alongside the BBC Sounds app. What are they and why might they appeal to younger audiences?


- The two new podcasts that were launched; 'End of Days' and 'Beyond Today'. The first one is about the UK and if they have enough money and the second one is about an iraqi instagram star being killed for being too provocative. This may appeal to younger audiences as it talks about issues that may relate to them and appeal to them. 


ShoutOut Network

Read this Huffington Post feature on the Shout Out Network and answer the following questions:

1) What is the ShoutOut Network?

- The shoutout network is a London based network that puts together an offer for businesses to advertising slots for just as little as £1 for 3 months.

2) What podcasts are offered by the ShoutOut Network?

- they offer podcasts such as pop culture, comedy, theatre and the music artistic state of mind.

3) What audience do they reach?

- Thjey aim to reach mostly to black, asian and ethnic communities.

4) What are the 2015 statistics on podcast listening in the UK?

- The statistics are 92% of these ethnic minorities listening to the podcasts.

5) The article suggests podcasts are ‘picking up more steam’. Do you think podcasts the future of radio?

- I feel as if there is a space for podcasts in radio however it is not strong enough as people now tend to listen to things on streaming services such as spotify and apple music which are currently dominating the market.
