Coursework: Summer Project 2018

Film trailer 1: Narrative and genre
The narrative behind "The intent" follows a group called TIC and their come-up. It focuses on how the group goes on a murderous spree of robberies after the success of the first one. The trailer showcases the robberies briefly giving the viewer a small insight on each of the characters and a backstory of one of the characters giving the viewer a hint of what may come up in the movie. It's loosely linked to the coming of age genre, and is more of an urban action drama, but aspects of the coming of age genre are present with the childhood of one of the characters being shown.

Film trailer 2: Mise-en-scene

The mise-en-scene throughout creates meanings, such as certain characters clothing. Hoods create meaning of being form an urban, lower class and poorer background. The use of props such as knives, bats and guns shows the lifestyle and dangers the characters may face giving the audience an idea of the personalities and characters within the movie.

Film trailer 3: Camerawork
The constant use of panning signifies time passing. The constant and repeated use of close up is done to create a relationship between viewer and character. The zooms on certain characters signify their importance to the movie. The constant switching of camera angles also shows the fast pace of the movie.

Film trailer 4: Editing
The way the trailer is edited for Top Boy gives the viewer a brief summary of what happens through out the series from episode 1 to episode 4 in order. This gives the viewer a good idea of what it's all about and what's expected from it. The editing is at a medium pace and has several scenes fragmented, but still long enough for the viewer to understand what's happening without confusion.

Film trailer 5: Sound
The trailer begins with a voice over done by the main character, giving a brief insight into the story and a little in the past. It then switches to a fast paced, urban track which is matched up with the camera editing and the scenes shown. The use of the sound track creates a sense of immersion for the viewer which intensifies for people who'd have heard the song before. It also gives people a sense of a personal relationship to the characters and their experiences.

Film trailer 6: Trailer conventions, intertextuality, graphics, text-on-screen etc.

The movie has on screen text throughout the trailer creating suspense and mystery. "the deadliest species in the galaxy" creates a feeling of mystery as people wonder what it is reffering to. It also makes reference to other movies such as shaun of the dead which a UK audience would most likely have seen before
