Mise-en-scene blog task
Costume
The costumes are historically accurate as Spartans actually did not wear armour when going into battle, therefore people who do not know this may mistake this scene as portraying men in a sexual way. But the fact they don't wear armour makes them appear more masculine, and fearless.
Lighting
The lighting in the scene is very dark, which goes very well with the battle that's happening. The light poking through the clouds looks a bit like lightening. the dark lighting gives a very dark undertone to the battle suggesting death.
Actor (placement and movement)
The actors are all set up near each other and seem to be charging towards something (presumably the enemy), all the actors are also really muscular for the role of fighters.
Make-Up
Make up was used on the actors to give them sweat and dirt, to make it more immersive and believable for the person watching.
Props
Shield, helmets, some armour and weapons are used as props.
Setting
The setting seems to be an open muddy field, with somewhat mountains or hills in the background.

'Downsizing' is a movie about the discovery of a machine that shrinks people, and they have their own society, cars, houses etc. It's a comedy movie. The trailer contains some comedy, with generally bright colours and a happy setting. Compared to 'The possession' the atmosphere is much lighter and less props/make-up is used. Also the setting in 'Downsizing' is generally pretty open whereas in 'The Possession' it's a closed off environment. Compared to the setting in 'Skyfall' they're quite similar but the general tone is significantly different.
'The Possession' uses a lot of make-up in this scene in order to create the effect that the girl has truly been possessed. They also give her a sweaty and pale face to enforce this effect. The setting is incredibly sinister which appears to be a run down hospital. The actors all look like quite middle-class particularly her parents. The use of props is also evident when there is a Jewish Bible which contrasts with the satanic vibes that the girl gives, and pictures of her childhood are also shown to create a separate persona for the girl and demon inside of her. In comparison to 'Downsizing' it has a much darker and more sinister feel, reinforced by the setting and make-up.
